Sarah Adams

Hello, my name is Sarah Adams and I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, pursuing an art degree. I have been experimenting in just about every art form; from ceramics, printmaking, drawing, painting, design, and digital art; recently decided to concentrate on painting and pursue a BFA degree. I am also a big fan of multimedia applications and have a secret love for expressive artistic scrapbooking (not just your grandmother’s photo albums!). My goal is to ultimately be an art teacher, for I want to share the love for creating and help inspire and open endless possibilities for others; not only in skill, but in attitude and personal enjoyment of the world! I am also looking towards future publications of art books and/or children’s books, as well as professional illustration, which is my ultimate dream job. I am currently building up a portfolio of illustrations for small businesses, but I would eventually like to illustrate stories, books, games, and similar things. I would also like to fit being a professional painter selling in galleries somewhere in there…. there is just so much to do and not enough time to do it all!

I have always been doing art, ever since my mother put crayons into my hand at a young age. Like many of my peers, I started drawing seriously when I was first inspired by the Japanese anime style around 1998/99. To this day, my favorite Japanese animator is Hayao Miyazaki. My style began to be heavily influenced by the fantasy genre in highschool when I was very big on the Lord of the Rings universe and the realms of role-playing. As a result, I started doing individualized character creations. From that point onward I have been branching out in developing a style of my own.

Through my DeviantArt website you may find examples of my traditional and digital art, where I may be contacted for possible commissions or art trades involving the styles found therein. I particularly love doing fan art and art trades of other people’s characters. I can also be contacted at sennenko at hotmail dot com.

Appi Yashiro

Hi! My name is Appi Yashiro. I am enrolled in the College of Education University of Hawaii at Manoa and am pursuing a dual preparation degree in elementary education and early childhood education.

At a young age, I discovered art to be a small passion of mine, as I became more involved with drawing in school. As a visual artist, one of my strengths includes being able to draw visually by using my imagination. By simply closing my eyes and meditating on what I want to draw, I have the ability to create a picture on paper to nearly the exact replica of what I am picturing in my mind. Using this technique has helped me to create brochures and posters in my elementary school years and has helped me to win a National PTA Award in the 1998-99 Reflections Program during my middle school years.

Another forte I have attained is being able to sketch the items that I visually see in front of me. Having an object displayed in front of my eyes allows me to create a mirror image on paper and with time, I am able to create almost an exact copy of what is modeled.

My last asset includes being able to integrate technology through art. I enjoy experimenting with different program applications such as Adobe Photoshop CS2. Playing with the different tools to create a graphic allows me to be in touch with up-to-date technology as well as allowing me to create wallpapers, website layouts and simple graphic art.

I particularly enjoy using my hands to craft items- from puppets, to felt creations, and intricate clay models, crafting is something that motivates me to become an influential artist. Happi Crafts portrays just a small bit of the work I produce. Finding the time to craft makes me a happy individual. My hopes I have for Happi Crafts fans is that they become just as pleased with the products I make.

Hobby-wise, I enjoy volunteering in community events, attending education workshops, partaking in music education, drawing and of course, making Happi Crafts.
