Kaeo

Hi, I’m Ka`eo Kepani. A web designer and new media producer, specializing in video production and distribution, and community-focused web projects. I also enjoy designing for print, identity, and (most of all) video.

I first fell in love with new media when I was in high school. I enrolled myself in a 1-year-old video production program called Na Ali`i Vision which, even through its infancy, won numerous state-wide video competitions thanks to my dedicated classmates and my instructor Jay Pa`a.

After graduating, I immediately jumped into the broadcasting field at Akaku: Maui Community Television. It was there for 2 years I was exposed to the non-profit business model, the Maui community, and the experience of all the industry professionals Maui had to offer.

After the 2-year stint, I decided it was time to institutionalize my learning and attend the University of Hawai`i at Manoa to earn a degree in Communications. After taking a semester and a half of classes, I figured out I had barely learned anything new, and returned to Akaku on Maui to further my learning higher in the ranks of the organization.

Once back, I taught classes in Final Cut Pro and iMovie, as well as classes in Electronic News Gathering and Studio Production. I also had a large part in the Akaku Productions department shooting and editing Akaku’s contractor work. I then left those roles in order to fill a position where my passion lies: on the web.

New opportunities have always pre-empted chances to return to college (most recently playing Head Set and Graphics Designer for Akaku’s coverage of the 2008 Elections), but I hope one day to finish up and move on to valuable real-world experience.

When I’m not staring at a computer screen, I enjoy eating sushi and gyoza. I love playing multiplayer video games with my friends (RockBand, most specifically), hanging out with them, and engaging in an infinitely looping argument with James until 3am. Soybeans are the only type of soy I like (besides Shoyu) and I take a lot of pride in my mountain bike. But above all, I love to dream big and always aim high.
